Start - Setup Your Hardware Wallet

Welcome to Your Ledger Journey

Congratulations on taking control of your cryptocurrency security. This guide will walk you through setting up your new Ledger device and securing your digital assets.

Begin Setup
1

Unbox and Connect

Carefully unbox your Ledger device and all accessories. Connect your device to your computer using the provided USB cable.

Ensure you're using the original cable to prevent any connection issues. The device should power on automatically when connected.

Never use a damaged or third-party cable for your Ledger device.

2

Initialize Device

Follow the on-screen instructions to configure your new device. You'll be prompted to set a PIN code - choose something secure but memorable.

Your PIN protects your device from unauthorized access. It's your first line of defense, so make it strong.

Write down your PIN in a secure location, but never store it digitally.

3

Write Recovery Phrase

Your device will generate a 24-word recovery phrase. This is the most critical piece of your security setup.

Write down each word in exact order on your recovery sheet. Double-check spelling and sequence.

Never digitize your recovery phrase - no photos, cloud storage, or digital notes.

4

Install Ledger Live

Download and install Ledger Live from the official Ledger website. This application will be your gateway to managing your cryptocurrencies.

Verify the application's authenticity by checking digital signatures and only download from official sources.

Always verify you're on the legitimate Ledger website before downloading any software.

5

Add Crypto Accounts

Open Ledger Live and follow the setup wizard. Your device will be detected automatically.

Install apps for the cryptocurrencies you want to manage. Each currency requires its own app on your Ledger device.

You can install multiple cryptocurrency apps - your device has limited storage but you can manage them as needed.

6

First Transaction

Now you're ready to receive your first cryptocurrency! Generate a receiving address in Ledger Live for your chosen cryptocurrency.

Send a small test transaction first to ensure everything works correctly before moving larger amounts.

Always verify receiving addresses on your Ledger device screen before sending funds.

Bank-Level Security

Your private keys never leave the secure element of your Ledger device, providing military-grade protection for your assets.

1500+ Assets

Manage Bitcoin, Ethereum, and all major altcoins plus ERC-20 tokens and other digital assets in one secure interface.

Mobile & Desktop

Access your portfolio on both mobile and desktop with Ledger Live, keeping your assets secure and accessible anywhere.

Built-in Exchange

Swap between cryptocurrencies directly within Ledger Live through our partner exchanges with competitive rates.

Security Best Practices

Verify Addresses on Device

Always confirm receiving addresses on your Ledger device screen, not just on your computer.

Keep Recovery Phrase Offline

Store your recovery phrase in a secure, offline location like a fireproof safe or safety deposit box.

Regular Firmware Updates

Keep your Ledger device firmware updated to benefit from the latest security enhancements.

Beware of Phishing

Ledger will never ask for your recovery phrase. Be cautious of emails or websites pretending to be Ledger.
